• Skin lesion like bump or ulcer
• Heals spontaneously or smolders for years
• Destructive changes in nose or throat
• Other form is visceral leishmaniasis
• Fever, anemia, weakness, emaciation, enlarged liver, spleen, death
Leishmaniasis is not a commonly heard word in the United States. It’s not common because it’s not here. Also, it’s not a pleasant disease.
The disease is caused by a parasite which is carried and transmitted by the bite of the sandfly.
